Jennifer Wimmer, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
I grew up in the central Appalachian mountains, in very rural Virginia; my family roots there are deep (over eight generations.) While my experiences in the conservative environment there shaped my early life, even as a young adult I cultivated a deep appreciation for people who recreate and improve themselves by following their inner compass.
I strive to provide trauma-informed, anti-racist, body positive, sex-positive, LGBTQIA2S+, poly/kink friendly, strengths-focused, collaborative therapy with a systemic perspective and appreciation for intersectionality. I operate from an Interpersonal Neurobiological framework, using Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and ACT exercises as my practice foundations.
I am focused on helping individuals seek and reach balanced, stable, healthy lives. Genuine, attuned empathy, effective communication skills, new perspectives and strategies for stuck thought patterns, and education about the hope to be found in the brain’s neuroplasticity are some of my best tools in helping clients find stability, confidence, and acceptance. I have experience working within alternative value systems, subcultural lifestyles, and non-heteronormative identities or relationships. Such individuals often find they must painfully choose between hiding their true selves or facing marginalization—and they face this choice without resources or allies. Because healing happens in connection, I want to offer open, honest support for healthy identities and relationships of all descriptions.
