Jessica Truong, MS, NCC
Professional Counselor Associate
Pronouns: She/Her
I identify as a cisgender heterosexual woman in my mid-20s, a first-generation Vietnamese American, currently able-bodied, and in a smaller body. I grew up and lived in Portland, Oregon all my life.
My therapeutic approach integrates various modalities tailored to meet your unique needs like a toolbox. My philosophy is grounded in the Humanistic approach of Person-Centered Therapy, complemented by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and Culturally Sensitive & Responsive Care. I believe that understanding the Self starts with our earliest relationships, that our minds and bodies are interconnected, that emotions serve as valuable messengers, and that we are individuals within larger systems.
I work with clients from diverse and intersectional backgrounds, taking into account the systemic structures that may impact individuals based on sex, gender, race, discrimination, and other factors, particularly those who identify as persons with disabilities. Regardless of our similarities and/or differences of backgrounds, we all
bring our own unique lived experiences and lens that inform how we move through life. As a clinician, my aim is to provide a safe and compassionate space for you to increase awareness and understanding of self, unlearn old habits, beliefs, and ideas that no longer serve us, and through self-empowerment, you can bravely show up as your authentic yourself while navigating our world that has been deeply impacted by capitalism and colonization.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from Portland State University and recently earned a Master’s degree from their Counseling: Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program. I am currently working towards my certification with the specialization in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy working out, exploring new restaurants, and traveling. I also love staying in, playing board and card games with friends, and watching the latest movies. Additionally, I have a senior mixed-breed dog named Juliet, whom I cherish as my best friend.
I am honored to work with you and hope to be a good match for your therapeutic needs. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact my supervisors, Carina Mariscal Diaz, LPC at carina.mariscal.diaz@portlandmh.com
