Kaylynne Gray Harding, MA
Professional Counselor Associate
Pronouns: They/Them
Hello, my name is Kaylynne. I work as an Affirm 2STNB Pre-Licensed Therapist at Portland Mental Health & Wellness. I hold a Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling from Lewis & Clark College. I am a white, Queer, genderfluid, nonbinary, and neurodivergent human. I have direct lived experience with traumatic loss and grief.
WHAT IS THERAPY WITH ME LIKE?
My intention in our work together is for you to feel empowered with new strategies for managing the impacts of ADHD, trauma, anxiety, and/or grief in your daily life in a space that is non-judgemental and where we can be curious together. Building upon your existing skills, we will identify additional affirming and accessible techniques to help you achieve your goals.
In addition to talk therapy, I will offer opportunities for you to work with art materials in ways designed to support your well-being tailored to your experience and comfort with various art making activities.
I approach our work from a Feminist, person-centered, and trauma-informed lens. I recognize that you are the expert of your experience, and seek to co-create a therapeutic space where we draw upon your strengths in our collaborative work toward the goals that you define in therapy.
Spaces that celebrate Queer and Trans identities, where I have been supported in my own flourishing, have provided the foundation for the art therapist I am today. I am honored to have prior experience serving my community, and I carry the knowledge of Queer resilience gleaned from these experiences with me into my work today. My professional background in Queer mentorship and social justice advocacy continue to influence my approach to therapy, and I recognize the influences of injustice, ableism, and institutional trauma on how we navigate mental health.
WHAT IS ART THERAPY?
Creative expression can be a meaningful tool in our healing journeys—even to those of us with no prior art-making experience. Making art has many benefits to our wellbeing, including helping us make sense of our experiences and embrace joy in being alive.
I trained in art therapy because I have experienced and been supported by the cathartic and soothing powers of art-making in my own healing journey, even during periods of my life before I had any art instruction.
I know from experience that regardless of your age or prior experience making art, incorporating a creative practice into your daily life can provide meaningful and restorative experiences for you, too.
OUTSIDE OF THE SESSION
In my free time, I can be found birding, stumbling through my latest fiber arts project, or spending time exploring the Pacific Northwest outdoors with my chosen family.
