Mara Neel, PsyD
Post Doctoral Psychologist Resident
Pronouns: She/They
I believe that every person has innate knowledge of the best ways to help themselves achieve their goals. I view my role as one of providing guidance, where we may uncover this knowledge together. I work from a feminist and humanistic base using techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. In other words, I look at each person as the complex individuals they are, living within the multiple systems that affect their lives – from family and school systems to sociopolitical systems. In practice, I use play-based methods, hands on activities, as well as talking therapy to meet the developmental needs of each person I work with.
I received my doctoral degree from Wright State University in Ohio and completed my pre-doctoral internship with the National Psychology Training Consortium at Valley Oaks Health in Indiana. I have experience working with youth, adults, and families who have experienced generational trauma and socioeconomic disadvantage. I particularly specialize in working with youth and families, queer individuals, and those who have experienced trauma. On a personal note, I live with my partner and two cats (Rorschach Theodore Sparklepaws and Carla Rogers Sparklepaws). I love to take my cats on hikes, dance, and cook on my personal time. My clinical director is Laurel Fuson-Lang. I am post-doctoral resident supervised by Len Kaufman.
