Melinda Del Rio

Director of Outpatient Psychotherapy Services

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

I am a first-generation Mexican and Indigenous Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC III) with a rich tapestry of lived experiences that have shaped my professional journey. My academic background includes a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a focus on trauma and interpersonal violence, and a double major Bachelor of Science in Criminology & Criminal Justice, and Psychology.

My professional experience spans various settings including the criminal justice system, re-entry programs, recovery homes, homeless shelters for youth, adults, and families, day treatment centers for ages 11-19, treatment courts, and working with individuals under the psychiatric security review board (PSRB).

I provide empathetic and personalized care to those facing a myriad of challenges such as stress and anxiety, substance use, trauma and abuse, motivation, self-esteem, identity confidence, depression, suicidal ideation, life changes, experiences of oppression, body image, sexuality exploration, exploring life’s purpose/meaning, generational trauma, incarceration, processing spiritual journeys, and racial/cultural/ethnic identity, among others.

In my practice, I bring a diverse range of experience and expertise grounded in a holistic approach to mental health and well-being. With specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I offer evidence-based trauma therapy to help individuals process and heal from past experiences that may be impacting their present lives.

As a certified drug and alcohol counselor with a harm-reduction approach, I recognize the complexities of addiction and substance use. I provide compassionate support and practical strategies to help clients reduce harm and make positive changes in their lives.

I also offer Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), structured and evidence-based approaches to addressing traumatic memories and reducing distressing symptoms. By gradually approaching and processing traumatic experiences, clients can experience relief and reclaim a sense of safety and empowerment.

My clinical toolkit includes a variety of approaches to best fit the needs of the individuals I work with. These include behavioral therapy techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), somatic practices, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Nonviolent Communication. By addressing thought patterns, behaviors, and physiological responses, I assist clients in managing symptoms and reclaiming a sense of control over their lives. I also incorporate a practice-based evidence approach, helping individuals reclaim and find themselves through sound, movement, and introspection.

My expertise extends to the realm of attachment and relationships, including both monogamous and open relationships. Through a combination of attachment theory and relational therapy approaches, I support individuals in navigating the complexities of intimate connections and fostering healthy, fulfilling relationships.

In all of my work, I prioritize a person-centered and feedback-informed approach to treatment. I believe in the importance of attending to individual needs, preferences, and strengths, and I regularly seek feedback from clients to ensure that our work together is collaborative, effective, and empowering.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space for individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. By integrating a variety of therapeutic modalities and approaches, I empower clients to heal, grow, and thrive on their unique journey toward mental health and well-being.

As a lifelong learner, I am dedicated to staying current with the latest research and best practices in the field of mental health. I regularly participate in training, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to expand my knowledge and enhance my clinical skills.

Above all, I am deeply honored to accompany individuals on their journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. It is my privilege to be a part of each individual’s story and to provide compassionate, person-centered care that honors their unique strengths and experiences.
