I approach therapy through collaboration and understanding that we are all shaped by experiences throughout our lives. These experiences inform how we make meaning in our lives and understand our multiple identities. I also approach my work through a multicultural lens with which I presume that culture influences our experience of ourselves and others across cultural groups. Finally, I practice Contemporary Gestalt Therapy, where we seek to build awareness in the present moment and understand how you make meaning of your environment. From this perspective, symptoms of mental illness are our attempt to cope with inner and environmental distress. Our work will support these symptoms, and we will become curious about their intended function, which paradoxically leads to their resolution. We will work towards helping you become more of who you are rather than trying to eliminate aspects of who you are. Because of this, I believe the therapeutic relationship is the essential element of therapy within which we collaborate to discover a meaningful change.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s in Applied Psychological Science, with an emphasis in Latina/o Psychology from Pacific University. I am currently in post-graduate, advanced clinical training at the Pacific Gestalt Institute in Los Angeles, California. I have experience working with Adolescents, Adults, Families, and Couples experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity issues.
