Tucker Chopp, PsyD
Post Doctoral Psychologist Resident
Pronouns: He/Him
I am a postdoctoral psychology resident at Portland Mental Health & Wellness under the supervision of Erica Aten, PsyD with Laurel Fuson-Lang, PsyD as my director of clinical training. I graduated from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, San Francisco Bay Area campus in July 2024. As a predoctoral psychology intern, I provided behavioral health consultation in a primary care setting to patients across the lifespan at Christ Community Health Services in Memphis, TN. I trained in individual and family therapy, assessment for diagnostic clarification, and supervision as a predoctoral intern. My predoctoral experiences primarily consisted of providing individual therapy and assessment to youth and young adults of diverse identities in community mental health and crisis residential settings. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with honors at University of California, Davis.
As a therapist, I work from a client-focused approach, centering the unique perspectives, challenges, strengths, and identities of the person in front of me. I work thoughtfully to empower clients to make informed choices in their lives. My goal in every therapeutic relationship is to help clients remove the obstacles that get in the way of their life satisfaction, fulfillment, and joy. I integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches, but most commonly depend on motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic and relational therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, self-compassion, and family systems theory. I am trained as a generalist and work with a variety of clinical issues and client identities. My areas of interest include working with LGBTQ+ youth, young adults, and their families, as well as clients with trauma histories, adjustment challenges, and relational difficulties.
